Forgive Man Utd fans for going into this game feeling full of confidence after two 4-0 victories over West Ham and Swansea. Leicester were fantastic on the opening day of the season against Arsenal and some would say they were unlucky to lose to Arsenal but pushed on to defeat Brighton 2-0. From 18 of the last games, United have only once which was in Leicester’s title winning campaign a terrific 5-3 victory at the King Power Stadium.
The same fixture last season saw United defeat Leicester 4-1, scoring 3 goals from corners and a sensational goal from Juan Mata. United played very well in this game last year with Zlatan starting up front, but could of won by more. Goals from Smalling, Mata, Rashford and Pogba sent United on the way to a convincing scoreline. I wouldn’t put it pass this United team to do the same this weekend either because Leicester look vulnerable at the back. In Leicester’s defence, they will play the way they usually do, sit back and try counter attack with the pace of Vardy and not allow the United defenders play from the back with Okazaki buzzing around in the number 10 position.
Team news from both sides, none to report from a United perspective really. Everyone is fit who played last week and the return of Young, Shaw & Rojo back to first team training won’t affect the squad selection for this week as Mourinho stated in the summer it would be September until we see Shaw and Young back. The re-signing of Zlatan Ibrahimović will not have a bearing on the selection either as he is still recovering from knee surgery but will certainly add another dimension to this exciting United side.
In summary, United’s power, pace and defensive solidity should allow Jose Mourinho’s side to push on against Leicester and claim all three points before the international break and potentially top the table. I’m predicting United to win 3-0.
